South Korea: massive inspections of airlines’ safety management systems
28 December 2010

The South Korean Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs will conduct an inspection of the airlines’ safety management systems as part of efforts to prevent accidents.

Though national airlines have not reported any fatal accidents since 1999, there was a series of airplane breakdowns, flight cancellations and delays recently.
The government will check how the country’s six airlines conduct and assess their own safety, and manage safety problems.
Asiana Airlines was inspected as of December 27, with Korean Air scheduled to undergo an audit in January. Air Busan and three other budget carriers will undergo inspections in February and March, the ministry said.
