MD-11 cargo plane takes off on taxiway instead of runway at Anchorage
16 November 2005

Federal aviation officials are investigating reports that an Eva Air MD-11F cargo plane took off from a taxiway instead of its assigned runway at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. In the incident on November 5th, the crew were cleared to take off from runway 32, but used the parallel taxiway Y instead. The MD-11 was heading to Taipeh, Taiwan. A similar incident happened in January 2002 when a China Airlines Airbus 340 departed from taxiway K (which runs parallel to runway 25L/R) instead of runway 32. (KTVA)
