FAA announces plans for industry working group to study portable electronics usage

Given the widespread consumer use of portable electronic devices (PEDs), the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is forming a government-industry group to study the current PED policies and procedures aircraft operators use to determine when these devices can be used safely during flight.

Report: Sukhoi Superjet accident crew cleared to fly below Minimum Safe Altitude

Superjet 97004 departing Jakarta-Halim on it's final flight 1 August 2012

A preliminary report issued by the Indonesian National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC) states that the Sukhoi Superjet that crashed on a demonstration flight near Jakarta, Indonesia, was cleared to fly below the Minimum Safe Altitude following a request by the crew.
